Weanie

So I weaned Libby (or I should say, I finally gave in to Libby weaning herself, which had been happening since, oh, birth). She had been eating less and less on the boob and more and more on the bottle, so it was inevitable. Once we'd started solids, though, it was all over. She just would not let me force her little head down anymore, and I got tired of the battle.

I'm grateful that we had a tiny little window there where everything seemed to go well for us. She was off the nipple shield and seemed to be eating decently well (although we always had to supplement with a bottle). When it went well, I could not have loved it more. I would have kept going forever if she'd let me! Now that I know what I'm doing a little more, I'm hoping I'll have more breastfeeding success with the next kid.

I was doing fine with the decision until about a week ago when I suddenly got a little emotional about it. To make matters worse, in true Libby contrarian fashion, she now has started nestling in boobward when she needs comfort just before going to sleep. Ooohhh, Lib. She misses her world's largest pacifier.

As you can see, though, the weaning has left her no worse for wear:

Thanks to Aunt Kim for the sunglasses. Kim's been waiting (im)patiently for a picture of Libby in them. We took a walk yesterday, and Libby's cool shades (and her adorableness, of course) drew many smiles and comments.

P.S. Notice how her little elfin ears make it hard for her to correctly wear the strap for the glasses. Poor baby. Between that and her giant melon, the glasses fit a little strangely.

Adorable, as always.

*sighs* It's bittersweet, isn't it? Ben weaned at one year, and I vividly remember the first night we didn't BF before I put him to bed. We swapped out the feed for a read of Goodnight Moon instead, and he took to it as if that was the way things had always been done. I, on the other hand, sobbed through the whole dang book. Despite all the pain and hassle, I was actually quite sad to see it go. I can understand your emotions completely.

On the plus side, though, I'm now a D-cup! : ) Most people say they shrink after BF, but not mine, baby! I've got triple the ta-ta's now!!! Bonus!

Libby looks great in her sunglasses and with her proud Dad. She is sure cute. Now that she is eating she will grow very fast. Just think in another month or so it will be steak and lobster.

Love you.

I love the glasses! I think Aunt Kimmy needs to buy her a pair in every color. I can't wait to see the glasses paired with the sun hat, hot pants, and shirt that I sent...guess I will have to wait on that.

Love you!
